My favorite homemade juice recipes

This is one of my favorite homemade juice recipes, especially come summer time.

The lemons and limes give you a serious boost of vitamin C, not to mention a lovely, refreshing zing wonderfully complemented by the ginger.

And you get all the sweetness you need from the apple and the grapes.

The whole juice is just lovely!



handful of grapes

1 apple, cored and sliced

½ inch fresh ginger (less if you find the taste too strong)

1/2 lime

1/4 lemon

sparkling mineral water


Remove the grapes from the stem.

Juice the apple and ginger together, then juice the rest of the fruit.

Pour the juice in a large glass and fill to the top with sparkling water and serve with ice.

The veggies mix beautifully with the fruits, coming together to create a crisp, sweet, refreshing drink that really boosts your energy.

Thanks to the kale, especially, you get so many nutrients – it's a super juice made from a super food!

Drink this if you're pregnant or around your period, especially if you get really bad cramps.


1 cup sliced kale (from about 3 large leaves)

1 cup seedless green grapes (about 28)

1 English cucumber, thickly sliced

1 small Granny Smith apple (4–6 ounces), cored and cut into chunks

1/2 cup water


In a blender, combine kale, grapes, cucumber, apple, and water;

blend, scraping down sides occasionally, until smooth.

Strain juice and, if desired, thin with additional water.

Before serving, garnish with a fresh kale leaf and a cucumber slice (optional).

Refrigerate up to 2 days (shake before serving).

Convection Versus Toaster

Convection ovens, unlike toaster ovens and conventional ovens, utilize an internal fan to evenly circulate hot air within the unit. The main advantage of a convection oven is that the circulated hot air allows the food to be cooked at a faster rate than toaster ovens. Toaster ovens, much like traditional toasters, use heated coils to warm food and are typically smaller units, capable of fitting on a countertop.

Those on the market for a toaster oven must weigh certain factors before making a final purchase. For example, toaster ovens with a nonstick interior are easier to clean than those without. All toaster ovens come equipped with removable crumb trays; however, some are removable from the front. Those that are removable from the front can be removed while the oven is hot. Some models come equipped with an automatic shutoff feature, allowing the unit to turn off after a set amount of time, which prevents the food from being burnt or catching on fire. According to Consumer Search, the best toaster ovens on the market as of 2011 are the Breville The Smart Oven BOV800XL, the Cuisinart TOB-195 Toaster Oven with a convection feature and the Hamilton Beach 31197R countertop convection oven. The cheapest model is the Hamilton Beach with an estimated starting price of $90 as of 2011. The most expensive model is the Breville with an estimated starting price of $250 as of 2011.

Convection Ovens

Those looking to purchase a convection oven should purchase the Kenmore Elite 48043, according to Consumer Search. The Kenmore Elite has an estimated starting price of $2,200 as of 2011 and includes three oven racks, two oven lights, an electronic clock, preheat control and a self-cleaning option. The overall interior width of the oven is 24.125 inches while the interior depth is 18 inches and the interior height is 16.5 inches. The Decision

When it comes to deciding which is better -- a toaster oven or a convection oven -- personal opinion and cooking styles will always be the deciding factor. Toaster ovens are ideal for those who wish to heat small to larger meals without taking up a lot of space within the kitchen. Convection ovens are ideal for those who like to cook larger meals at one time and have the space to install one. Toaster ovens with a convection feature are ideal for those who cannot decide between the two and only require the size of a toaster oven to heat the majority of their meals.


Making a perfect toast bread with my toaster

I had bought a more expensive, name brand toaster a couple of years ago and absolutely hated it! I finally decided to look for a new one. Who knew there were SO many choices. I saw this one and loved the feature that keeps toast warm for 3 minutes. When it arrived, I was a little worried about how light the toaster was. I wondered if was going to be well made. So far, so good! I've been happy with the way toast has turned out each time (my last toaster either undercooked the bread or burned was possessed! lol). I find, with the defrost setting, the frozen waffles turn out great as well.

The only thing I was surprised about was that the toaster beeps when the bread is first pushed down and then it gives a beeping signal right before it pops up. It was a good thing for me because I tend to forget about my toast and the beeping reminds me, but the first morning we had it, the kids were making toast and I woke up wondering what all the beeping was about ;) I must have overlooked that feature when reading about it online. No biggie though! It's turned out to be more good then bad.
